Are You Remembering to Breathe These Days?

Today marks three weeks since the Robb Elementary School shooting in Uvalde, TX, which wasn’t far behind the shooting in Buffalo, NY, and amidst so many other shootings that result in needless dying. As the second amendment states, “well regulated” means smart gun ownership, and the stress of how far we are from that right now can be overwhelming.

It feels like that concept of really breathing has become a little harder lately. I know it’s important, but, somehow, it's harder.

Stress hormones affect respiratory and cardiovascular systems, whether it's to speed up breathing, constrict the chest so it's harder to breathe or make us forget to breathe altogether. Our brains require oxygen to function, which is why there’s such a direct link between breathing and productivity.

I’m joining you in this exercise. Amidst the stress of life, how do you prioritize breathing?
