Honored to Serve Women Entrepreneurs

This August 1st marks one month since I started volunteering as the president of the Greater Raleigh chapter for the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO). This organization was founded in 1975 to be the first advocacy organization for all women business owners. In the beginning, there were twelve women business owners who met informally in the D.C. area to share information about federal contracts, access to capital and other issues related to their businesses. Today, NAWBO is the only dues-based organization representing the interests of all women entrepreneurs across all industries, making it the one-stop resource to propel women business owners into greater economic, social and political spheres of power worldwide. The members of NAWBO are amazing rockstars who truly inspire me.

Most importantly, there is no National Association of Women Business Owners without this organization’s members, and our board of directors is eager to fulfill NAWBO’s mission while serving each NAWBO sister, NAWBro and community constituent looking to support women business owners. There are big things ahead for all of us as we live out this year’s theme of We Rise Together.

There is such truth in this year’s theme of We Rise Together, representing how many opportunities exist in this moment to those of us who bring together our squads, supporting one another for even loftier success ahead. When women business owners surround ourselves with squads who deeply love the people we are, push us to level up when needed, provide supportive sounding boards and help us laugh until we cry, everyone achieves more. Thus, there’s no denying that NAWBO Greater Raleigh provides the ideal organization through which we can obtain the support and resources needed to optimize our opportunities coming out of this challenging year. Rising together, we’ll accomplish amazing feats!

NAWBO uses its far-reaching impact to be women business owners’ one-stop resource, propelling women entrepreneurs into greater economic, social and political spheres of power worldwide. All three of those legs are extremely important, but the political sphere of power is particularly near and dear to my heart. I have learned how politics and public policy are two very different things, and it is incumbent upon us as business owners to share our experiences for fueling public policy that makes it easier to start, run and grow our businesses. I love how NAWBO is a bipartisan organization, bringing together those with differing views to create public policy that serves the majority of women business owners.

There will be so many opportunities for our members and guests to benefit from engaging with NAWBO-GR in the year ahead, wether as a NAWBO member, by attending events, serving as an event sponsor or investing as a year-long corporate partner. There will be something for everyone, including social events as well as educational events, some in-person, some online, some that are members-only while others will be open to the public, some free and some for a fee. Click to access NAWBO-GR's event calendar for an idea of what lies ahead, and know that this leadership team is committed to balancing members’ safety amidst this global pandemic with valuable programming that effectively moves you toward your goals.

Have you joined NAWBO? Would you like to learn more about being a NAWBO-GR corporate partner? At which upcoming events will I see your smiling face? I’m honored to serve NAWBO-GR this year!
