Are Your Habits Serving You Well?

 
 

Let's reflect upon the building blocks of productivity. Have you thought about daily, weekly and monthly routines? A routine is defined as “a customary or regular course of procedure; commonplace tasks, chores or duties as must be done regularly or at specified intervals; typical or everyday activity.” What routines you build into habits or rituals are integral for efficiently working toward effectively achieving your desired results across all elements of life. These are the building blocks for productivity.

𝗘𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝘀𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝘁𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗻 𝘄𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗵 𝘀𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝘁. Whether called routines, habits or rituals, these are vital tools for productivity. 𝘛𝘩𝘦𝘺 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘵𝘢𝘴𝘬𝘴 𝘰𝘯 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘵𝘰-𝘥𝘰 𝘭𝘪𝘴𝘵; yet, they are equally necessary as 𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗿𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗺𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗼𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝘀𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀.

Every one of us was likely changed by 2020, and we must think carefully about how our routines should change to better support our new selves.

Think about how you...

🧘🏻‍♀️ start each day.

🛌 end each day.

⏱ block time for getting things done.

⏳ plan for investing each week's time.

🗓 determine what opportunities earn a yes for going on your calendar.

👩🏻‍💻 wrap-up each day's loose ends.

Take action to evaluate 𝘄𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗵 𝗿𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘄𝗲𝗹𝗹, which need some tweaking and how you can develop habits for what actions are needed to succeed.

𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝘁𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗽 𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝗻 𝗲𝘅𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗵𝗮𝗯𝗶𝘁 so you don't forget it and they more easily become a routine. I’m re-reading Atomic Habits: An Easy & Proven Way to Build Good Habits & Break Bad Ones by James Clear, which always adds enlightenment around my most powerful habits; it might be a good resource for you, too.
